What is a CCRC and what are its advantages?

A CCRC is a Continuing Care Retirement Community which includes Independent Living apartments (IL), Assisted Living apartments (AL), and accommodations for Memory (Alzheimer’s) Care (AZ) and Skilled Nursing Care (SNF). It offers seniors the opportunity to live in a residential community designed for people seeking an active independent lifestyle, while providing the added security of an on-site, long-term care continuum. As needs change, residents can progress to higher acuity care and don’t have to worry about transferring to a new community.

A CCRC provides peace of mind, flexibility, financial certainty and value for residents and their families.

What is the difference between assisted living and nursing home care?

Assisted living supports less intensive care needs for residents whose medical conditions are chronic and stable, while nursing care supports more intensive needs. For those in need of therapy, our therapy provider can serve the needs of all residents.

Does The Orchard require a purchase agreement or an upfront financial investment?

The Orchard is not a buy-in community. We are the only full service private-pay Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in the Jackson area, that does not require a purchase or large move-in fee. We believe a resident’s life savings belongs to them and therefore, provide services in a rental fee-based model. If a resident calculates their meals, housekeeping, home maintenance, lawn maintenance, water, electricity, cable, gas, insurance, trash removal, mortgage payment/rent and real estate taxes, they will find that The Orchard’s monthly fees are likely consistent with their current monthly expenses – all with the peace of mind that comes with a top quality CCRC.

What services do you offer in Assisted Living?

Some of our residents in Assisted Living simply require general oversight and reminders, while others need various levels of care and assistance with all their activities of daily living, such as showering, grooming, dressing, and dining. Each resident has a personalized care plan that details his or her needs and it is regularly updated to meet his or her evolving needs.

How is a resident’s level of care determined?

Level of care is determined by completing a physical and cognitive assessment prior to moving in. Assessments are performed by our Assisted Living Administrator who is a registered nurse.

What are your visiting hours?

We love guests! We do not have set visiting hours for families. You are welcome to invite visitors any time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Can I paint my walls?

We want you to feel at home. You are free to paint and decorate your home to reflect your personal style.

Can residents have cars?

We have a large parking lot with free parking. While many of our independent living residents still drive, they often find that once they move to The Orchard, they enjoy leaving the driving to us.

Are pets allowed?

The Orchard is not set up for overnight pets. Residents can have friends and family visit with dogs upon request and, from time to time, we have wonderful therapy animals make the rounds.

Is smoking allowed at The Orchard?

We are a smoke-free community. Smoking is not allowed.

I’m still active and independent. Is The Orchard right for me?

The Orchard provides a unique opportunity for independent residents to enjoy a retirement lifestyle without the hassle of home maintenance. An independent living resident will have a parking spot, an open access apartment with a balcony or patio, large closets, a full kitchen, plenty of storage and can maintain the same active lifestyle from before they moved in. If, however, residents want to participate in activities, have some meal preparation or transportation, it is available upon request. Most importantly, companionship and a sense of community keep The Orchard residents engaged and happy.

May I have guests in the dining room?

Yes! Chef loves having company and we are always happy when guests join us. The best is when the grandkids come for ice cream.

Can guests stay overnight?

Of course! Guests can stay with you in your apartment or if you prefer, The Orchard sets aside a few units as overnight guest rooms.

Are there any federal income tax benefits for residents of The Orchard?

According to the current rules and regulations of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a portion of each resident’s monthly fee may be deducted as an itemized medical expense.

What’s going on with the construction next door?

Thank you for asking! Our memory care unit, affectionately known as The Rose Garden, is growing. We are very excited to announce that we are adding accommodations for up to 52 Alzheimer’s care, dementia care and memory care residents. In the past, we have only been able to care for women and have often been at maximum occupancy. With the Rose Garden expansion, we will be able to offer services to both men and women. Current residents will receive priority selections of rooms in our new community.

Does The Orchard offer respite care?

The Orchard can provide short term care solutions subject to room availability and the type of care.

Does the Orchard charge level-of-care-fees?

No, The Orchard uses an all-inclusive pricing model. Budgeting is simple and there are no surprises on invoices.  When compared to other communities in the Jackson area, our overall cost is considered an extraordinary value.
